Professional reviews:

Jancis Robinson.com: "If yellow fruit and meadow herbs sound like a replica of the fragrance of the Frühlingsplätzchen, there is no reason why the ripeness of grapes of two adjacent vineyards should not take a similar expression. The difference lies in the performance on the palate, where the Halenberg exhibits a slightly fuller dimension, generous in texture despite its fair share of acidity. On the finish there is an almost tactile feel of compact minerality, supported by a delicate bitter notion of zesty peel. Truly majestic." 18,5/20

Wine Advocate: "Review by Stephan Reinhardt eRobertParker.com # 215 (Oct 2014) Rating: 94 Drink 2018 - 2024

Showing as an intense citrus color in the glass, the 2013 Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Grosses Gewachs opens to very ripe citrus aromas accented by healthy raisins and really dense, rich and concentrated baked yellow apple notes. There is more purity and minerality on the palate, but this is a powerful and rich, juicy and monolithic wine that will develop over 10 years or more."

John Gilman (View from the Cellar): "We tasted three different constituent components of the 2013 Halenberg Grosses Gewächs this year in the cellars, as the final blend was not yet completed. Part one hails from the best section of the vineyard and has just a whisper of botrytis, as it offers up a smoky bouquet of lime zest, grapefruit, wild yeasts, slate and tart orange. This has only 2.5 grams per liter of residual sugar, but the acids are perfectly buffered by dry extract, and the wine is full, quite structured and racy. Part two is a bit higher in residual sugar, at 5.5 grams per liter, and offers up strikingly beautiful and pure fruit tones as it central pillar. This is the most seamless and longest of the three parts on the palate, with great purity and precision. Part three, which will only be partially used for the GG blend, has 15 grams per liter of residual sugar and is very vibrant, smoky and floral in personality, with great length and grip and gives an impression of being far 52 drier than its 15 grams per liter, as the acids and extract simply devour the impression of residual sweetness on the palate. The approximate blend of the three that Frank Schönleber put together for us showed a wine of immense potential and should come in between 93-94+"

Weinwelt: Sehr viel Zitrusfrucht, Kalamansi, auch etwas Safran, Majoran; sehr viel fruchtsüßes Extrakt, intensiv, voll, jederzeit hocharomatisch und mit viel Zitrusfrucht. 94/100
