Professional reviews:

Stuart Pigott (Jamessuckling.com): "There are drier-style Mosel wines that are more charming and easier to drink, but the balance of ripeness and freshness, darkness and light in this wine is so unique it's beyond easy definitions like good and evil. Daring and totally fascinating. A really dry finish and aging potential for 20-plus years." 94/100pts

Moselfinewines.com (Jean Fisch & David Rayer): "The 2016er Piesporter was made from parcels situated in the central part of the vineyard and was fermented down to 4 g/l of residual sugar, i.e. within legally dry levels. The wine develops a beautiful nose of cassis, passion fruit sorbet and smoky herbs. It proves beautifully well balanced and juicy on the palate, with good aromatic intensity and great finesse in the citrus-infused yet gorgeously silky finish. Now-2026" 92/100pts

Vinous.com (David Schildknecht): "I had been under the impression – which may have been accurate until last year – that Haart intended to keep the terms trocken or halbtrocken off his labels, given that his wines without Prädikat would taste dry but might fall on either side of the legal dividing line. Still, given a mere five grams of residual sugar, he may have felt tasters should be warned about this cuvée from 30-year-old vines in the Goldtröpfchen. Strikingly citric, it displays pungent scents and a bright, juicy, zesty palate presence of lemon, grapefruit and kumquat. The expansive, subtly oily, rich midpalate reflects alcoholic body just shy of 13 percent. Smoky, stony and pungent marjoram-like notes add interest to a finish that’s decidedly piquant but not at the expense of refreshment or transparency." 90/100pts
